What is Major Writing #1 all about?

In the first writing assignment, I will be conducting an interview with someone who is advanced in the field of psychology, using questions about his or her work and writing. I will be analyzing three academic and three non-academic writings from him or her to get an idea of what professional writing looks like from the field. This assignment is very appealing to me because I am interested in what writing from the psychology field looks like and what I will, hopefully, be writing and reading at some point in my college career. Similar to this assignment, I have done papers that are comparable in the sense of conducting an interview and analyzing the results but I have never analyzed writings to go along with it other than when doing research papers. Questions: How long should the interview be? Do the writings need to come from the interviewee? Should we analyze the writing before the interview to generate questions about the writing or after?

What is rhetoric?

Rhetoric is the study and use of written, spoken, and visual language that investigates how language is used to maintain and form social groups, identities, and behaviors. It began 2500 years ago in Ancient Greece in the forms of communication and argument for legal life, politics, and for the use of the public. The person speaking in rhetoric is referred to at the rhetor and the one to whom they are speaking is referred to as the audience.
